Offense

These are some key offensive drills we did during practice that helped us in our games.

Setting a pick, or screen, and the pick and roll

To set set a pick, players spread their feet apart, put their hips down, and bend their knees. This makes it harder for the opponent to knock them over. The player's back should point in the direction that their teammate needs to go. Make sure the player remains stationary because if they move before contact with the opponent, they will be called for an illegal screen. The players hands should be protecting their body, but their arms should not extend out to the opponent. Teammates should let each other know they are setting the pick and after the opponent comes off the pick, the pick setter should turn towards the ball. Once the pick has been set, the player with the ball dribbles through the spot that has opened up and "rolls" to the basket and scores.

In this video, I have the ball and my teammate Arthur, moves up behind the opponent and sets a pick. I am able to dribble around the player, but the lane is still not clear. Arthur gets to the basket and I was able to pass the ball to him for the easy basket.

The triple threat
In this video Coach Knapp demonstrates the triple threat. Watch how he is squared up to the basket so he can either dribble the ball, shoot it, or pass the ball to a teammate. He does a jab step to try and fake the defender into thinking he is moving, then he can step back and have an open shot.
